Ask the publishers to restore access to 500,000+ books.
A collection of
reticella lace patterns from the publications of Matteo Pagano (1515-1588):
Giardineto novo di punti tagliati et gropposi per exercitio & ornamento delle donne, 1544, 1550;
Ornamento delle belle & virtuose donne, 1544, 1550, 1554;
Spechio di pensieri delle belle et virtudiose donne, 1544, 1546.
These lace pattern designs are beautiful and useful on their own
but are especially important as examples of the bridge between the early
pattern books of embroidery and the further transformation of lace through the development
of punto in aria as shown in later works.
This version of the
three titles has designs that have been modified from the originals and is
copyright by James G. Collins & Associates. A copy is provided here for
individual, personal use only. Accompanying essays copyright by Alessandra
Caputo or Hastings Sanderson, as appropriate.
The originals used for
this publication, with online images that have been released into the public
domain, are available at the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York.
